Backing up your browser

The quickest and easiest way to transfer your browser settings, bookmarks and passwords is to sign into your primary browser. This will synchronise to the cloud.


Google Chrome


  1. In Chrome, click the the silhouette icon in the top-right corner of the browser window. If someone else is signed in to Chrome, it might have a different icon.
  2. Click Turn on sync.
  3. Enter your account details. If you do not have an account click Create Account and follow the instructions. This has to be a Google account.
  4. To customize what data you want to sync, click the Settings button in the bottom-left corner of the pop-up window. Then click Manage what you sync.


Microsoft Edge


  1. In Microsoft Edge, select the profile image in the browser taskbar.
  2. From the list of options, choose the account you want to sign in to or choose Add new account.
    If you see Manage profile settings, you're already signed in.
  3. Select Sign in to sync data.


Mozilla Firefox


  1. In Firefox, click the menu button in the top right and select Sign in. The sign in page will appear in a new tab.
  2. Enter your email address and click Sign up or sign in.
  3. Create a password, enter your age and click Create account.
  4. Choose what information to sync.
  5. Enter the six-digit code in an email from Firefox.




Manually backing up bookmarks


If you do not sign into your primary browser, you may have to back up your bookmarks and passwords. Guides for the three browsers (Chrome, Edge and Firefox) the Technology support are listed below. 

 

Google Chrome

  1. Open Chrome. 
  2. Click the three vertical dots in the top right-hand corner. 
  3. Hover over Bookmarks and select Bookmark manager. 
  4. Click the three vertical dots by the Search bookmarks bar and select Export bookmarks. 
  5. Feel free to rename the file. Save it to your OneDrive. 

 

Microsoft Edge

  1. Open Edge.
  2. Click the star with three lines next to the search bar.
  3. In the pop-up select the three horizontal dots.
  4. Select Export favourites.
  5. Feel free to rename the file. Save it to your OneDrive. 

 

Mozilla Firefox

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. Click the three lines in the top right-hand corner.
  3. In the bottom left corner of the pop-up that appears, select Manage bookmarks.
  4. Select Import and Backup and then Export Bookmarks to HTML.
  5. Feel free to rename the file. Save it to your OneDrive.


Please note, the folder "Managed Favouriteswill not be backed up. This is a collection of bookmarks pushed out centrally, managed by Technology.
